Kim's Sermon Column] Title: The Least of These

In Matthew 25:31-46, there is a parable about the judgment of Jesus when he returns. In this parable, Jesus spoke of people who are judged by being divided into sheep and goats. The sheep are those who have done good deeds to the least of these, and the goats are those who have not given them any help.

Jesus said to the sheep, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:40). Here, "the least of these" refers to people who are materially poor or socially marginalized. Jesus said that serving such people is the same as serving himself.

In today's society, there are also many "least of these." There are many people who suffer from poverty, disease, unemployment, and discrimination. The parable of the sheep and goats that Jesus spoke of emphasizes love and concern for these people.

How can we serve the least of these? First, it is important to see them as they are and to empathize with their difficulties. And then we must move on to concrete actions that can meet their needs.

Serving the least of these does not simply mean giving material assistance. It is also important to understand their lives and make them feel that they are respected and loved beings. We can bring about a great change in their lives with a little attention and care.

Today, Korean society is becoming increasingly polarized. In this situation, Jesus' words have even greater meaning for us. Serving the least of these is not just one good deed, but it is living a life that resembles Jesus.

Let us look back at the least of these around us from today and extend our warm hands to them. That small act will be the beginning of expressing our love for Jesus. -Jinju chungman
